After years of waiting, the first trailer for the Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, has finally dropped, giving us our first glimpse of Timothée Chalamet as the leading man himself.
Based on Elijah Wald’s 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric, the film will follow the folk music legend’s first few years in New York City, leading up to the massive moment that kicked off his career at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival performance.
The trailer also gives us our first listen to Chalamet’s singing chops with a rendition of Dylan’s 1963 song “A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall.” Dylan has one of the most distinct voices in music history, but Chalamet rises to the challenge and delivers a fairly spot-on impression.
Capturing his voice is one thing, but can the film capture the true journey of Dylan? The folk legend is a cultural icon, who wove everything from socioeconomic troubles and political unrest to his Christian beliefs into his music, has been beloved for decades. A Complete Unknown has some high expectations, and we’ll find out in December if it lives up to them.
