Andrew Garfield is singing and dancing his way to achieve his purpose in the first trailer for tick, tick…BOOM!, a musical about the true story of Jonathan Larson, the writer of Rent. Larson wrote his own autobiographical musical about his days bussing tables in New York City in the 90s while struggling to write a story that would capture a generational moment, which he certainly ended up doing. The movie’s log line says that “Jon is at a crossroads and faces the question everyone must reckon with: What are we meant to do with the time we have?”, which is certainly a question that hasn’t gotten any easier to answer since 1990 when Larson was torturing himself over it.
This musical is directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, his first crack at directing a feature film after honing his talents on the live stage. The movie will be on Netflix and in select theaters this fall.
