Trailer: ‘Breaking’ Features Michael K. Williams in One of His Final Roles

The trailer for one of Michael K. Williams’ last films just dropped, and it’s a reminder that one of Hollywood’s best actors was gone too soon.

In Breaking, Williams plays an officer who is determined to help a distressed veteran (John Boyega) stay calm in the midst of a bank robbery. The film is based on the true story of Marine Veteran Brian Brown-Easley who held an Atlanta bank hostage in 2017 after he was denied support from Veterans Affairs. We won’t ruin the plot, but for anyone curious on how the story ends you can read it here.

It’s been less than a year since the world was shocked by Michael K. Williams tragic death. The Wire actor had just finished wrapping up filming for Breaking when he was found dead in his apartment from a drug overdose. Just like his Breaking character, Williams spent much of his career giving back to his community by helping others work through the difficulties of life. In a conversation with RELEVANT, Williams shared that he wanted to be remembered for his service to the community over his impressive acting résumé.

Williams and Boyega, who looks almost unrecognizable in this role, are also joined by Connie Britton, Nicole Beharie and Olivia Washington. The film will premiere in theaters August 26.
