It’s a miracle — or is it? That’s what Florence Pugh is determined to find out the in new Sebastián Lelio film The Wonder.
Pugh stars as Lib Wright, a Victorian-era nurse sent to an Irish remote community to observe a mysterious young girl, Anna (newcomer Kíla Lord Cassidy). The 11-year-old has supposedly not eaten for four months, claiming she feels “full” surviving on “manna from Heaven.” (A spiritual flex, if true.)
A closer look at the trailer reveals that things might not be what they seem. The close-nit community, held closer together through their faith, appears to be keeping more than a few secrets, and Pugh seems set on getting to the bottom of it all.
We’re thrilled to see Pugh back on our screens after last month’s gossip-filled Don’t Worry Darling dropped to dismal reviews. Thankfully, The Wonder seems to give Pugh the space to flaunt her once-in-a-generation talent by keeping the drama in the film this time.
The Wonder will premiere in select theaters November 2 and on Netflix November 16.
