Trailer: In ‘Monster,’ Kelvin Harrison Jr. Squares Up Against an Inhuman Justice System

Walter Dean Myers’ classic 1999 novel Monster is finally getting its cinematic adaptation thanks to a powerhouse cast starring Kelvin Harrison Jr., A$AP Rocky, John David Washington, Jennifer Hudson, Nas and Jeffrey Wright. The story follows Harrison’s Steve, a promising young artist whose rise is interrupted when he is implicated in a robbery that goes tragically awry. It’s not pleasant reading, but the book is enormously powerful (it was nominated for the National Book Award) and the movie promises to be a similarly harrowing experience. Here’s the first trailer.
