Trailer: Joaquin Phoenix Discovers the Joys of Raising a Kid in the First Trailer for ‘C’mon C’mon’

Joaquin Phoenix is back with his first role since his Oscar-winning performance in Joker with a very different energy. The trailer for C’mon C’mon captures Phoenix reciting lines from Claire A. Nivola’s Star Child, and looking like he’s having the time of his life helping raise his nephew, all shot in gorgeous black and white by writer/director Mike Mills. Mills is the man behind 2016’s beautiful 20th Century Women and he’s proven adept at these slice-of-life dramas that inject a sense of beauty and wonder into the everyday. Phoenix isn’t necessarily known for gentle portrayals of regular guys (although Her might be close) but it’s nice to see this actor showcasing his range. A24 will drop C’mon C’mon in November.
