What happens when your guardian angel is over it? Keanu Reeves is about to show you.
In the newly released teaser for Good Fortune, the upcoming comedy from writer-director Aziz Ansari, Reeves stars as Gabriel, a rogue guardian angel who’s tired of his low-level assignments and ready to make a bigger impact.
“Is there any way I can have more meaningful duties?” he asks. “I want to guide people. I want to change their lives.”
What follows is a celestial swap gone sideways. Gabriel targets Arj (played by Ansari), a struggling gig worker, as someone in need of help. His solution? Swap Arj’s life with Jeff, a wealthy venture capitalist played by Seth Rogen. Sandra Oh and Keke Palmer round out the cast.
“Oh, so I have a budget guardian angel?” Ansari’s character asks after learning Gabriel’s usual gig involves preventing texting while driving.
Good Fortune marks Ansari’s feature directorial debut, and the comedian is bringing the same observational wit and heart that made Master of None a critical darling.
“This movie is about what a lot of people are doing — struggling,” Ansari said during a sneak preview at CinemaCon. “If you can write about things that everyone is dealing with that no one is talking about, you’re in a good area.”
The film hits theaters Oct. 17.
