Trailer: Netflix’s ‘Mary’ Shares a New Perspective of the Nativity Story

Netflix has released the first trailer for their new biblical epic film, Mary, which tells the story of the Nativity through the eyes of Jesus’ mother.

When it comes to Christmas content, Netflix typically takes a page out of Hallmark’s book and go full-on cheese. But after the surprising success of the biblical mini-series Moses earlier this year, it seems they’re branching out this holiday season with something more substantive.

Directed by D.J. Caruso (Disturbia), the movie will follow Mary, Joseph and their newborn son, Jesus, as they evade King Herod, played by Academy Award-winner Anthony Hopkins. To capture an accurate perspective of Mary, the team of producers included a wide range of scholars and leaders, including Hannah Leader, who produced The Covenant and spoke with us about her work on the RELEVANT Podcast, and Houston-based pastor Joel Osteen.

Mary will premiere on Netflix Dec. 6.
