Movies are back and thank goodness, because Warner Bros. is teasing the upcoming release of In the Heights by dropping the first eight minutes on YouTube for free and wow, what a ride. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s pre-Hamilton Broadway musical was brought to the screen by Crazy Rich Asians‘ director Jon M. Chu, and the result is a slickly edited marvel, a dizzying tour through Manhattan’s northmost neighborhood that introduces our stars Anthony Ramos (a Hamilton alum), Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) and singer/songwriter Leslie Grace (Miranda makes a little cameo too). You could hardly ask for a splashier opening number, and if the movie can keep this energy up for the length of its runtime, we’re in for a treat. We’ll know more when the whole thing releases on June 10.
