A Day After Gal Gadot Said It Was Happening, ‘Wonder Woman 3’ is Shelved

The DC movie universe is on the brink of a new era, but not before a potentially messy transition period.

Back in October, Warner Bros. hired James Gunn and Peter Safran to launch DC Studios guide devise a plan for the next half decade and beyond. Gunn and Safran are expected to present their plan to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav next week.

But The Hollywood Reporter has found that Wonder Woman 3 has been stalled, putting future DC films at a standstill as well. Gunn and Safran’s vision is expected to layout an interconnected story universe a la the MCU. It is unclear how any future Wonder Woman movie, and Gadot’s portrayal of the hero, would fit into the new DC plan, however.

This also sets the rest of the Snyderverse — the heroes at the center of Justice League — on an unclear path. For the time being, Man of Steel 2, with a returning Henry Cavill, and future Aquaman films, fronted by Jason Momoa, likely won’t be moving forward. Both Cavill and Momoa are expected to make cameos in the upcoming Flash movie, however, and rumors are spreading that Momoa may be leading another movie or franchise. Furthermore, the success of movies such as Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Blue Beetle may lead to recasting of characters even if those movies prove to be box office hits.

No matter what Gunn and Safran decide to do, it is clear that the DC movie universe is entering a new era. We may not know the exact path forward until next week, but it will be interesting to see how the duos plan will shape the future of DC movies.
