Maverick City Music founding members Chandler Moore and Naomi Raine announced today they are each leaving the Grammy Award-winning worship collective. The departures mark the end of an era for the group that has redefined modern worship music and brought gospel-infused praise to mainstream audiences.
Moore shared his decision in a heartfelt statement, explaining that the last two years have been a time of refocusing.
“These last two years I’ve been locked in on what really matters… in my life and in my career,” he wrote. “It’s been scary at times, but it’s also been full of fresh vision and real excitement about the future. With that, I’ve made the bittersweet decision to end my relationship with Maverick City Music.”
He described the transition as difficult, adding, “Maverick is something I poured my heart into, so it’s almost like saying goodbye to your own kid.”
He acknowledged that there may be “press and conversation around certain business matters” that his legal team is handling but made clear his focus is on what’s next.
“The dream hasn’t changed,” he wrote. “I’m stepping into this next phase ready to share my story and make music that helps people feel a little more human, a little more understood and a little less alone.”
Raine shared a similar sentiment in her own post, saying that after “a lot of prayer and consideration,” she believes it’s time to step into a new chapter.
“Being a part of Mav truly changed my life,” she said. “What started as a group of folks singing in a shed has turned into something I could’ve never even imagined! And now I believe God has given me the green light to step into what He’s calling me to do individually.”
Raine emphasized that her departure isn’t the end of her ministry.
“Still writing. Still singing. Still worshiping and leading others in worship—just on my own,” she said. “This isn’t really an ending, but a new beginning. A new chapter. I’m excited about the music, the ministry and the purpose ahead. God’s not done yet.”
Moore and Raine were among Maverick City Music’s original members when it formed in 2018. Since then, the collective has earned five Grammy Awards, topped Billboard’s Christian and Gospel charts multiple times, and amassed billions of streams across platforms. Albums like Old Church Basement and Jubilee: Juneteenth Edition cemented their crossover appeal, while songs like “Jireh,” “Promises” and “Wait on You” became modern worship staples. Their voices and songwriting helped shape Maverick City’s sound and global influence, leaving a lasting mark on contemporary worship music.
