Daniel Caesar Performs His Most Faith-Focused Album on Tiny Desk

Daniel Caesar has returned to the Tiny Desk for a second time, making him one of only a few dozen artists invited back to the famously intimate stage.

Caesar’s return follows the release of Son of Spergy, his most explicitly faith-focused project to date. While spirituality has long been woven into his music, the newest album leans fully into rediscovering his faith and wrestling with themes of belief, repentance and acceptance. He described the album as “a roadmap back to God” — and that newfound clarity carried into the performance, which unfolded as a collective moment of reflection rather than a traditional showcase.

Accompanied by a 12-piece choir, Caesar performed five songs from the album: “Rain Down,” “Emily’s Song,” “Moon,” “Who Knows” and “Sins of the Father.”

NPR Music’s Bobby Carter underscored the impact of the set, calling it “one of the most transcendent moments at the Tiny Desk.”
