Dennis Quaid plays the father of MercyMe frontman, Bart Millard, in the new film about the origins of the band’s hit worship song, “I Can Only Imagine,” and the role seems to have impacted him.
This week, he released a song that he wrote and performed about his faith called, “On My Way to Heaven.”
In a “making-of” video about the song (below), Quaid also opens up about his faith, explaining that though both he and his brother—fellow actor Randy Quaid—were baptized as children, he really started searching for God while in his 20s.
“I went around the world, actually, in my late 20s, and the question I had, as I went around the world was, ‘Who is God?’ I became a seeker, really. So I came back, and I read the Bible cover-to-cover. For me, it’s Jesus; it’s the red words of Jesus. How simple it is. There really is redemption in that.”
