Chance the Rapper rung in the last year of his 20s not with a bang but with a gift. 1,500 gifts actually: free meals to the Chicago community through SocialWorks, his nonprofit organization. The free food was for anyone who needed a hot meal, and the free scoops of his Ben & Jerry’s flavor Mint Chocolate Chance was just a little extra birthday treat.
“Best gift u can get me is showing someone they’re a child of God today,” Chance wrote on another IG post.
In 2020, Carson Daly asked Chance what motivated him to be so active in his community.
“I think it’s indirectly my faith,” Chance responded. “I get a lot of my sense of understanding and kindness from my mom. And then my dad and his side of the family were all community organizers. My great grandmother marched with [Dr. Martin Luther] King and organized. My grandmother worked for Harold Washington when he ran for mayor of Chicago.”
