JOHNNYSWIM is prepping for the release of their fourth album in a few weeks here and now we’ve got a gorgeous new single featuring a verse by red-hot emcee Tobe Nwigwe, who also directed the music video. The song’s themes should sound familiar to any Lost fans in the house, as Abner Ramirez wrote the song about 15 years ago as a tribute to the show. According to a press release from Ramirez and his wife/co-JOHNNYSWIMmer Amanda Sudano-Ramirez, the song just never quite worked until they cracked some new production tricks in recent months and asked Nwigwe to take a swing at writing a verse for it.
The result is a gorgeous ballad that highlights both Sudano-Ramirez’s vocals and gives Nwigwe a chance to operate a different flow than fans might be used to from him. It all works beautifully.
This is the third song we’ve heard from JOHNNYSWIM’s upcoming, self-titled project, following “Heaven Is Everywhere” and “Devastating.” The 17-track album was largely recorded on Covid-19 lockdown — a state of being the band opened up about with RELEVANT.
