The Internet was a bit shocked this week to find out Gwen Stefani had teamed up with the Catholic prayer mobile app, Hallow, for their upcoming holiday campaign.
Stefani appeared in an ad encouraging users to join the online Advent challenge for the mobile app. Singer-songwriter Lauren Daigle, The Chosen star Johnathan Roumie and author Francis Chan will also appear in promos for the challenge.

Hallow.com says the purpose of the campaign is to “prepare your heart for Christmas and rediscover the wonder of Christ’s coming into this world and our hearts.”
Stefani’s involvement in the campaign was surprising to anyone who still remembers her as the punk lead singer of No Doubt. And while the singer has never hidden her Catholic faith from fans, this is the first many of us have witnessed her speak about it in such a public way.
Inevitably, the Internet had a lot to say about it. Some were excited about Stefani’s public announcement.
“Imagine showing yourself this video in 1994,” one user wrote. “Seriously, I think it’s great that Gwen Stefani is a Christian, and is now more vocal about her faith.”
“Gwen Stefani being a Christian was not on my Christmas bingo card,” another said, “but I approve!”
Others are hopeful that she’s not the only celebrity speaking up about her beliefs.
“When celebrities like Gwen Stefani step forward in faith, it’s clear: the tides are turning,” one user wrote on X. “The world is rediscovering the joy and hope of Christmas in Christ.”
Still, many of her fans had a difficult time wrapping their minds around it.
One user wrote, “This… is the person who gave us Hollaback Girl? Is that right?”
Regardless of the internet’s opinion, it’s clear that Stefani has no problem making her voice heard.
As one X user put it, “Some of you struggle with your faith in Jesus Christ, but Gwen Stefani has no doubt.”
