Last night Kendrick Lamar continued his recent trend of surprising fans by posting new music to Instagram, when he dropped an untitled song his fans are calling “Watch the Party Die.”
The big surprise? The track name-drops two of Christian hip-hop’s biggest names: Lecrae and Dee-1.
The song explores Lamar’s frustration with the current state of music and hip-hop culture, specifically going after what big artists represent: materialism and seeking superficial success. But in the midst of lamenting and calling on God to turn things around, Lamar highlights Lecrae and Dee-1 as artists who are doing things differently.
“Sometimes I wonder what Lecrae would do,” Lamar raps. “F*** these n***** up or show ’em just what prayer do? I want to be empathetic, my heart like Dee-1.”
Lecrae shared his appreciation for the mention on X, posting, “Love you Dot….Always here.” Meanwhile, Dee-1 posted a throwback picture with Lamar along with his thanks.
