Ready to feel like it’s 2000 again? Linkin Park is back, and they’ve got some new faces.
During a live performance on Thursday, the band announced that Emily Armstrong, lead singer of the rock band Dead Sara, was joining as the new co-vocalist. Additionally, Colin Brittain, a seasoned songwriter and producer with credits alongside G Flip, Illenium and One OK Rock, is stepping in as the group’s new drummer.
The reveal wasn’t just about new members, though. Linkin Park also dropped “The Emptiness Machine,” their first single in seven years and the lead track off a forthcoming album, From Zero. Set to release on November 15, From Zero marks the band’s first full-length effort since 2017’s One More Light, which came out just two months before the tragic death of lead vocalist Chester Bennington.
Returning members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Dave Farrell and Joe Hahn have been quietly reuniting over the years, exploring new musical avenues without the pressure of reassembling the band in its previous form. Instead, they embarked on a journey that led them to Armstrong and Brittain. According to a press release, they found a “special kinship” with their new bandmates, and the result is an album that embraces Linkin Park’s signature sound while charging forward into new sonic territory.
“Before Linkin Park, our first band name was Xero,” Shinoda explained. “This album title refers to both this humble beginning and the journey we’re currently undertaking. Sonically and emotionally, it is about past, present, and future — embracing our signature sound, but new and full of life.”
We don’t really know why we’re reporting on this, other than it’s interesting that Linkin Park will sound more like Paramore now. The 2000s are back!
