Phoebe Bridgers has released her first brand new song since Punisher, which she wrote for Hulu’s upcoming television adaptation of Sally Rooney’s Conversations With Friends. It’s called “Sidelines” and she wrote it with her frequent collaborators Marshall Vore and Ruby Rain Henley. Bridgers says it’ll be her only original song of this year.
Bridgers has a busy year ahead with or without new music, continuing her U.S. and European tour in addition to playing Coachella this weekend. She recently released an acoustic version of “Chinese Satellite,” which explores her tensions around faith, saying she wishes she could believe in God but can’t square the teachings of Jesus with the hypocrisy and bigotry she sees among his followers. Something to consider.
Conversations With Friends follows a young woman whose life starts to unravel after she gets involved with a married man. The series will premiere on May 15.
