Former RELEVANT cover subject Maggie Rogers has released “That’s Where I Am,” the first single from her upcoming album Surrender. It’s the first new song we’ve gotten from the signer-songwriter following 2018’s fantastic Heard It in a Past Life.
Rogers says she has spent the last few years winding down and finding her own equilibrium as the world was turning upside down. As she surrounded herself in quiet and stillness, Rogers “eventually felt called to create music with the same sense of playful, open exploration and internal discovery that made her fall in love with writing and producing music back in high school.”
Rogers has an exceptional ability of turning some of life’s most complex emotions and experiences into eloquent music. She’s teased that Surrender will share raw stories of anger, peace, self-salvation and freedom — all topics that we believe Rogers is more than capable of handling.
Back in 2018, Rogers told us she’s always used music as a way to process life around her and put her thoughts and emotions into words.
“I’ve always used music as a form of self-care. It’s my way of understanding the world around me,” she said in our cover story. “I think that’s what I’ve learned over the last couple of years is really how to let go, and in the process I’ve really grown into my voice in a different way. I’m singing right now in a way that I never have and didn’t know was possible. I feel like I’m finding myself through a new way, and I’m excited to let it keep unfolding.”
Surrender is slated to release July 29.
