Anderson .Paak is an optimistic guy, and it shows on Oxnard, in which he pays tribute to the West Coast that made him with breezy, summery grooves that call to mind heading out of LA on the 101, windows down, volume up and nothing in the trunk except a swimsuit and a Bluetooth speaker.
Given this effortless vibe, it’s easy to miss Anderson .Paak’s meticulous production. The bright, bubbly pop of the beats and shiny, bouncing bass are as carefully curated as the emcee’s own flow, which is no mean feat. Anderson .Paak puts a lot of effort into sounding this good. It pays off.
