Taylor Swift Is Donating a Million Dollars to Nashville Tornado Relief Efforts

Taylor Swift is giving back to the city that made her a star, donating a million dollars to relief efforts following a series of tornadoes that rocked the city on Tuesday.

“Nashville is my home,” Swift wrote on Instagram Thursday. “And the fact that so many people have lost their homes and so much more in Middle Tennessee is devastating to me.”

Swift’s charity efforts are well-known but she’s been particularly generous towards Nashville. The Tennessean notes that in 2012 and 2013 she gave $4 million dollars for education at the Country Music Hall of Fame and $100,000 to the Nashville Symphony. In 2019, she gave $113,000 to the Tennessee Equality Project.

Swift made the announcement over an Instagram story and directed people towards the Middle Tennessee Emergency Response Fund, which is where she made her donation.

Over two dozen people were killed in Nashville and the surrounding counties when two late-night tornadoes ravaged homes and businesses. Beloved East Nashville music venue The Basement East was left in ruins, and North Nashville is struggling with the threat of predatory developers gobbling up the ruins at the expense of the people who’ve lived there for generations.
