The Weeknd Is Officially the Most Popular Artist in the World — “No One Else Even Comes Close”

The Weeknd has been crowned the king of the music world.

“No one else even comes close,” Guinness World Records said.

Guinness World Records reports that The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, is now officially the most popular artist on the planet. And with his incredible stats, it’s not hard to see why.

The Canadian singer has set two new Guinness World Record titles, including having the most monthly listeners on Spotify, with a whopping 111.4 million listeners as of March 20. Not to mention, he was also the first artist to reach 100 million monthly listeners.

The Weeknd’s success is sad news for other fan bases, like Swifties, Sheerios and Beliebers. Miley Cyrus is his closest competitor with 82.4 million monthly listeners, followed by Shakira (81.6 million), Ariana Grande (80.6 million), Taylor Swift (80.2 million) and Rihanna (78.5 million). The closest male competitor is Ed Sheeran with 77.5 million monthly listeners.

So, what’s the secret to The Weeknd’s success? It seems like TikTok has played a crucial role in his rise to fame. His “Die for You” remix with Ariana Grande went viral on the platform, catapulting him to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It was his seventh time at the top spot, a remarkable achievement for any artist.

But this isn’t the first time that The Weeknd has been recognized by Guinness World Records. In 2016, he won two awards for the most streamed album on Spotify and the most consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 by a solo male artist.
