Father John Misty fancies himself a bit of an actor, and in his new video for “Mr. Tillman,” a single off his forthcoming album God’s Favorite Customer, he goes all-in on his performance.
The video is pretty wacky. It showcases a circular sort of narrative where the artist, playing the titular Josh Tillman, checks into a hotel and, uh, well you better just watch it. Things go to a pretty weird place.
Misty (if we may) really flexes his acting performance here. He has legit crazy eyes, and the look is only underscored by his wild hair and beard. It works. Forgive us, but we wouldn’t mind if he was type-cast in a couple awards movies this fall.
God’s Favorite Customer is out June 1.
