50 years into Stephen Spielberg’s career, and the man’s still at the top of his game. West Side Story was among the most gorgeous, lavish productions Spielberg has ever done and the upcoming Fabelmans — loosely based on his own childhood — sounds like a feast. And now we’ve got this, Spielberg’s first ever music video. He directed the video for Marcus Mumford’s “Cannibal,” shot entirely on Spielberg’s iPhone.
No “Sons” were involved in the making of the video, but there are a few wives at work behind the scenes. Spielberg’s wife Kate Capshaw acted as grip (in the sense that she pushed her husband around on a rolling chair) and Mumford’s wife Carey Mulligan handled makeup and costumes. That marks Mulligan’s first time working with Spielberg, but hopefully not the last.
It’s a pretty intimate affair for a music video, but the results speak for themselves. That’s the Spielberg touch, baby.
Mumford’s solo album [self-titled] will release in September.
