NBC has purchased the sequel to Mark Burnett and wife Roma Downey’s hit series The Bible. The new series A.D.: Beyond the Bible will examine the roots of the Christian Church, centering on the apostles and the early Church in the years after Jesus’ resurrection. The move from History to NBC is another show of just how successful the top-rated miniseries has been. The 10-hour DVD set of the original series, which went on sale just three months ago, has already sold more than a million copies—that’s the most for any TV series in five years. In a statement, NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt said, “I followed the development process of The Bible closely with Mark and knew that the story was far from over after Christ’s crucifixion.
