Neill Blomkamp, the sci-fi visionary behind District 9 and this year’s intriguing Chappie unleashed a flurry of Alien artwork on his social media feeds last night, saying “Was working on this. Don’t think I am anymore. Love it though. #alien #xenomorph.” If this idea is really dead, it’s a shame, because it’s beautiful work. At its best, the Alien franchise overlays its abject horror with some truly gorgeous visuals, and Blomkamp clearly understands the aesthetic. The story looks like it included Sigourney Weaver in some capacity (unlike 2012’s ambitious but hollow attempt at rebooting the franchise, Prometheus), but we’ll evidently never know any more than that.
