The CW has announced that following the successful Kickstarter campaign to fund the upcoming Veronica Mars movie, the show will be rebooted, this time as a web series. Fans of the sleuth dramedy, which was canceled by the CW back in 2007, pitched in nearly $6 million for a new film version to get made. The new series will be available on CW Seed, an online network from the broadcaster that is used to test out new shows, some of which later become primetime television properties. Though series creator Rob Thomas will return for the 6 to 8-episode web run, it’s still unclear if the cast—most notably Kristin Bell—will also return, or if the Seed show will be a spin-off without the original stars.
