Nick Cave Wrote a ‘Gladiator’ Sequel Called ‘Christ Killer’ and It’s Bonkers

It’s been a while since we’ve discussed the truly head-spinning sequel folk-rocker Nick Cave wrote for Gladiator, but he just brought it up on Marc Maron’s podcast, and that’s the only excuse we need, because this thing is insane. In a nutshell, Russell Crowe’s character ascends to Mount Olympus after his death, and the gods send him back to earth to prevent Jesus from stealing popularity away from Greece’s pantheon of gods. But instead of killing Jesus, Maximus actually ends up becoming a supernatural defender of the early Church.

If it sounds weird, well, there you go. Things actually get way more bananas as Maximus becomes what Cave calls “an eternal warrior,” taking part in every major conflict throughout history, right up to the present time. It was called Christ Killer and the whole script has actually been posted online. So, go ahead and take a gander at the whole script but only if you’re ready for a serious head trip …
