Nicolas Cage fans, brace yourselves: The iconic actor announced he is no longer playing the role of Joe Exotic in the Tiger King series being developed by Amazon. He also implied the show has been shelved entirely.
“We should clear the record,” Cage told Variety. “I read two excellent scripts, which I did think were excellent, but I think Amazon ultimately felt that it was material that had become past tense because it took so long for it to come together. They felt at one point that it was lightning in a bottle, but that point has since faded into the distance and it’s no longer relevant.”
The show is reportedly looking for another streaming platform, but even if it does find a new home, Cage won’t be part of it— robbing the world of seeing him get inside the mind of an eccentric exotic zoo keeper who sports a bleached blonde mullet and plots to kill an animal rights activist.
While the world sadly won’t get to see Cage wrestle any tigers, we will get to see him fight for a different animal. Pig hits theaters Friday.
