Now Facebook Is Just Liking Things For You

Facebook’s Graph Search is rolling out to the untold terror of millions, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything else happening at Facebook that you should be paying attention to. According to Forbes, they’re also just going to go ahead and recycle your “likes” to promote “related posts” in your friends’ newsfeed, regardless of whether or not you actually liked those posts or have ever even seen them your entire life. Apparently, Facebook’s thinking is that they can aggregate your “likes,” determine which brands or stories you probably like based on that, and then promote those stories to your friends, using your name. You don’t even know this is happening and, in one case that Forbes cites, that content isn’t necessarily SFW. This is just one of many recent cases that have called into question just how Facebook is using (and generating) user likes, but the long and short of it is, don’t be too quick to judge if you see someone liking questionable content on Facebook.
