Of course, the world has been anxiously awaiting the day when you can search your Bible using emojis. Well, it’s arrived.
In celebration of World Emoji Day, BibleGateway has made it so that you can type emojis into the search bar and the website will use your emoji to do a keyword search, according to a post on BibleGateway Blog.
They found that about 3 percent of public Bible notes and 2 percent of tweets that link to Bible verses have emojis in them—used to communicate things that words can’t necessarily convey.
The search function uses the literal meaning of the emoji, rather than what it represents: “The BibleGateway search engine focuses on these representational emoji–it translates ❤ as heart, for example, not love, even though people generally use ❤ to express love for someone or something.”
This is different from the “Bible Emoji” because it’s not doing any translating of words or phrases into emojis, just allowing users to search using them.
