Prime Video is officially wading into Old Testament waters with Joseph of Egypt, an eight-episode limited series that just started production in New Mexico this week. The show stars Adam Hashmi (Bridgerton) as the famously betrayed, famously stylish dream interpreter who goes from slave to Pharaoh’s right-hand man — and eventually has to decide whether to forgive the brothers who sold him out.
Craig Wright (Greenleaf, Lost) is on board as writer and showrunner, but the biggest credit for Christian audiences is executive producer Dallas Jenkins, creator of The Chosen. The series is co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Jenkins’ 5&2 Studios, part of a new first-look deal that also brought the first five seasons of The Chosen — plus its upcoming Bear Grylls spinoff — to Prime Video.
Rounding out the cast is Alexander Siddig (Foundation) as patriarch Jacob, Babak Tafti (Succession) as Simeon and Iris Bahr (Curb Your Enthusiasm) as matriarch Leah.
No release date yet, but if the series sticks close to the source material, expect dreams, drama and enough sibling rivalry to make your next family gathering look like a peace summit.
