Following the success of The Walking Dead—a show based on a graphic novel series—AMC may be once again looking toward dark comics for inspiration. According to several reports, the network will soon be producing a new series based on the controversial, supernatural DC Comic Preacher. Noted comic book fan Seth Rogen, who is attached to the project, seemed to confirm the rumors, tweeting “Looks like about seven years of hard work are about to pay off. I may get to bring one of my favourite stories ever to live” [sic]. Don’t be fooled by the name though—the series isn’t exactly orthodox. The original comic book told the story of Jesse Custer, the preacher at a small-town Texas church who becomes possessed by a powerful supernatural entity known as Genesis. After his entire congregation is killed in the showdown with Genesis, Custer embarks on a cross-country journey (along with his girlfriend and an alcoholic vampire), battling other supernatural forces, as they look for God, who has left heaven for earth. Again, not exactly a Sunday school story. It should be interesting to see how some Christians react to such a controversial plot playing out in primetime …
