There’s no shortage of intriguing projects in the works over at Lucasfilm. From Taika Waititi’s mysterious upcoming Star Wars movie to a handful of new TV shows including the newly announced Bad Batch, it’s clear that Disney is determined to leapfrog from The Rise of Skywalker’s grand(-ish) finale to the Anakin Skywalker saga into stranger territories. And one new rumor suggests they’ll do it with a little help from Donald Glover.
Glover co-starred as a young Lando Calrissian in Solo, which was entertaining without being particularly excellent. But Glover was excellent in the role and Disney knows an opportunity when it sees one. Now, rumor has it the studio is trying to sign Glover up to reprise the role in a Lando series for Disney+, in which Glover would take Billy Dee Williams’ mantle to even further reaches of the galaxy. The working title: The Calrissian Chronicles.
There’s a lot we don’t know. Glover’s a busy guy who’s supposedly hard at work on getting back to Atlanta, the excellent series he created for FX. And then there’s Childish Gambino, Glover’s music persona who’s kept pretty quiet lately. But if those Disney paychecks give him more freedom to explore his own creative energy on his own time, that’s a win for everyone.
