After Landing a Historic NFL Deal, Seahawks’ Jaxon Smith-Njigba Said He’s “Here to Serve the Lord”

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has agreed to a four-year, $168.6 million contract extension that makes him the highest-paid receiver in NFL history. After the deal became public, he took to X with a simple message: “I’m just here to serve the Lord.”

Smith-Njigba’s faith has been part of his public story for a while.

“Growing up, being a follower of Christ is big,” he told Sports Spectrum last year. “Just having that foundation means everything.”

He’s brought that same perspective into postgame moments, too. After Seattle’s win that clinched a spot in this year’s Super Bowl, Smith-Njigba made sure to point the attention back to God.

“I want to give all the glory to God for this season,” he said. “I just wanted to give Him all the glory, and it’s just awesome to see what He’s doing on this team and in Seattle.”

Smith-Njigba’s deal includes $120 million guaranteed and carries an average annual value of $42.15 million, topping Ja’Marr Chase’s mark at the position. The extension follows a huge 2025 season in Seattle. Smith-Njigba led the NFL with 1,793 receiving yards, finished with 119 catches and 10 touchdowns, and was named Offensive Player of the Year after helping the Seahawks win Super Bowl LX.
