Baltimore Ravens Players Wash Local Students’ Feet and Give Them New Shoes, Led By Team Chaplain

Several Baltimore Ravens players spent Monday at a local elementary school washing students’ feet and handing out new shoes.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson, running back Derrick Henry and wide receiver Zay Flowers joined the Ravens’ team chaplain at Severn Elementary School on Monday to wash students’ feet and give them new shoes. The act — which the team said was done to “represent the importance of humility and serving others” — was part of a broader day of community outreach that included a financial literacy event hosted by Flowers alongside M&T Bank and EVERFI.

For Jackson, the moment aligns closely with how openly he has spoken about his faith throughout his career. The 2023 NFL MVP has consistently credited God as the foundation beneath his success.

“I always keep God first because without Him, there is no Lamar Jackson,” he said. “I give Him all His praise, the glory, the honor. When you feel like you’re bigger than the Lord, that’s when all that success dies.”

Henry has been just as explicit about where his priorities lie. The All-Pro running back is known for drawing crosses under his eyes before every game, a practice he says is meant to honor God publicly and consistently.

“I’m big on prayer and giving God thanks for everything that I have,” Henry said on the Faith on the Field podcast. “I put God first in everything I do, and I wouldn’t be where I am without Him.”
