Colin Kaepernick Plans to Stand During the National Anthem

NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick made a lot of news last season when he protested police violence and racial injustice by sitting during the National Anthem before games. Kaepernick, who is opting out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers—meaning he’ll soon be a free agent—now says he plans to stand during the National Anthem.

According to “sources” for ESPN,

Kaepernick no longer wants his method of protest to detract from the positive change he believes has been created. He also said the amount of national discussion on social inequality—as well as support from other athletes nationwide, including NFL and NBA players—affirmed the message he was trying to deliver.

In addition to his protest, Kaepernick’s foundation pledged $1 million to organizations that help the underprivileged.

During the height of the controversy Kaepernick stirred up, we published an article asking what Christians can learn from the quarterback’s protest.
