Jameis Winston has never been shy about talking about his faith. But now the veteran NFL quarterback says he could see ministry becoming much more than something he does off the field.
In a brief viral interview shared by Brady Sticker of ChurchCandy, Winston was asked whether he’d ever consider planting a church after his football career. His answer? He’s open to it.
“I would consider it,” Winston said. “Obviously it’s a lot of time and sweat into building a solid foundation, but with enough … focus on biblical principles.”
Before getting there, though, Winston made it clear he already sees his current platform as a form of ministry.
“I believe that as I walk … every person that I influence, everything that I say and do, should be Christ-like,” he said. “As I try to imitate Christ.”
The exchange came after a pastor introduced himself to Winston and offered to help if he ever decided to plant a church, explaining that his organization has worked with more than 1,000 church planters. Winston thanked him for the encouragement before the two parted ways.
Winston’s willingness to talk openly about his faith isn’t new. Over the years, he’s repeatedly described his identity as being rooted in Christ rather than football, and after leading the Browns to an upset win in 2024, he told CBS he’s “dependent on the Lord [and] He gets all the glory,” before later adding he was “grateful that God gave me this opportunity.”
