New York Jets Quarterback Justin Fields Says He’s Addicted to Reading the Bible

New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields isn’t new to the NFL spotlight, but he’s using it a little differently these days. In a viral clip from a recent training camp press conference, Fields revealed that over the past six months he’s gotten serious about his faith — and now he’s not shy about talking about it. The 25-year-old says daily Bible reading has changed his perspective, shifting his focus from chasing public approval to grounding himself in God.

“I think I used to let other people’s opinions shape mine,” he told reporters. “But you can’t do that because you’ll start thinking like those opinions. I’m glad I’ve grown out of that stage, and I’m glad that the only approval I need now is from my teammates, my coaches and ultimately God.”

Fields said his spiritual shift has been fueled by a new habit of reading Scripture every day. “I’ve been getting closer to God — reading the Bible every day, building that relationship. There’s so much wisdom and so many great lines I didn’t even know about. Honestly, I’m kind of addicted to reading it now because I learn something new every day and I can apply it to my life,” he said.

He even has a recommendation for anyone unsure where to start: Proverbs. Fields admitted he wishes he had made Bible reading a habit much earlier — a rare confession in a sports culture that doesn’t often talk about faith with this kind of candor. “I was sleeping on the Bible earlier in my life,” he said. “I wish I had started sooner. I encourage everyone to just read a little bit and go from there.”
