While most players might be laser-focused on their game plan ahead of a national championship game, Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard’s got his eyes on something a little more eternal: his relationship with Jesus.
“As cool as it is to sit on this podium, there are a lot of things in life that I appreciate a little bit more,” Leonard shared during a recent press conference. “Like, number one, my relationship with Christ. That’s something that’s free. And I feel like [attending] church or seeing one of my friends or family members get baptized or something like that—I feel a lot more gratitude after that than winning.”
Leonard has spent his entire football career speaking out about his faith. He even opened up about continuing to pursue God after his time playing football is over.
“I know it sounds crazy, but all I can offer you is, like, perspective, and that’s my perspective,” he said. “Because as cool as these flashy lights are, they’re only gonna last me so long.”
