UConn Star Paige Bueckers’ Secret to Staying Grounded Is Her Pre-Game Devotional

All-American guard Paige Bueckers just led the University of Connecticut to a dominant NCAA championship win, but before every game—including the title matchup against South Carolina—she had a quiet pregame ritual rooted in her faith.

In a new GQ “What’s In My Bag” video, the basketball star revealed that she always carries two devotional books with her—one she reads every night before bed, and one she reads before hitting the court.

“My faith is very important to me,” she said. “It’s what keeps me grounded, keeps me humble, just keeps me positive and joyful in life.”

The first devotional helps her end the day with “gratitude and appreciation for life.” The second, titled God x Basketball, is what she turns to before every game: “Just to remind me why I’m playing, how grateful I am to play, and just to trust in God’s plan no matter what.”

For one of college basketball’s biggest stars, staying centered doesn’t come from hype or superstition—but from Scripture.
