UConn’s Tarris Reed Jr.: ‘Jesus Changed Everything About Me’

Tarris Reed Jr. showed up to Final Four media day with more than game prep on his mind.

Ahead of UConn’s national championship matchup with Michigan on Monday night, Reed was asked by the press what Easter weekend means to him.

“The resurrection is really everything,” Reed told CBN Sports. “That’s like the staple of Christianity. So, without the resurrection, there is no Christian, there is no Jesus. Once you can show a lot of significant evidence for the resurrection, it shows a lot of the proof towards Christianity.”

That’s not exactly the kind of answer you expect in the middle of March Madness. But Reed made it clear his faith isn’t some side note to the moment. For him, it’s the whole framework.

He said Jesus “literally changed my mind” and changed “everything” about him over the course of his college career. Looking back on who he used to be — including reconnecting recently with former teammates from Michigan — Reed said the growth is obvious.

“My whole mind is different. The way I talk, the way I act, changed the way I treat other people,” he said. “It’s like more not to get, but more to serve. I feel like I’m here to really serve and serve others.”

It’s an especially full-circle moment for Reed, who started his college career at Michigan and now faces the Wolverines with a national title on the line. UConn reached the championship game after beating Illinois 71-62 in the Final Four, with Reed posting 17 points and 11 rebounds. The Huskies are chasing their third national title in four seasons.
