Disney’s back with the first teaser for their animated epic — one that takes place in a fantastical ancient world filled with magical creatures. Well, maybe not filled with magical creatures, seeing as there’s apparently only one last dragon, but that’s a problem Raya is aiming to fix. She’s voiced by The Last Jedi‘s Kelly Marie Tran, and our first look at the film gives us a glimpse of some gorgeous animation and a few of the creatures that you’re sure to see stuffed versions of in stores everywhere come March of 2021 when this movie aims to release in theaters. Tran says her character is “technically a princess” but the movie synopsis describes Raya as a “lone warrior” so sounds like she wears a lot of hats.
The movie is directed by Carlos López Estrada, the young Mexican-American filmmaker who handled 2018’s excellent Blindspotting.
