One week after Elon Musk took control of Twitter, Jack Dorsey is ready to take the next step in launching his new social media app.
Dorsey, Twitter’s co-founder and former CEO, announced his new decentralized app Bluesky is entering the testing phase. According to Dorsey, the new app will use an Authenticated Transfer Protocol, which is a federated social network run by multiple sites instead of a single site.
If you’re confused by what that means, join the club.
Bluesky was initially created by Twitter back in 2019. The company wanted to help develop a decentralized concept for its content. According to Gizmodo, one of Bluesky’s main selling points is that the AT Protocol technology will give users control of their algorithms.
And considering how much the algorithm determines your social media experience, this actually could be a revolutionary idea.
“The word ‘Bluesky’ evokes a wide-open space of possibility. It was the original name for this project before it took shape, and continues to be the name of our company,” Dorsey stated. “We’re calling the application we’re building Bluesky because it will be a portal to the world of possibility on top of the AT Protocol.”
