An engineering student at Aalen University in Germany has designed and prototyped a smartphone case that has what he calls a “mobile airbag” that deploys automatically if you drop your phone. Philip Frenzel, the designer, promises to begin a Kickstarter campaign for the device soon. Check it:
The “airbag” is a set of claw-like legs that deploy automatically and cushion your phone’s impact with the ground. The case can tell when your phone is in your hand, in your pocket, or in free fall, according to Frenzel. Pretty neat.
