You May Soon Talk to Your Dead Relatives in the Metaverse Through A.I.

It looks like we might actually “live forever,” thanks to ChatGPT and the metaverse.

Artur Sychov, the founder of Somnium Space, shared that the speedy development of ChatGPT has accelerated the timeline for his ambitious “Live Forever” project, which will allow people to preserve the way they talk, move and sound after they die. In other words, you could soon be chatting with your deceased loved ones via virtual reality.

Sychov was inspired to develop “Live Forever” mode after his father died. Last April, he spoke with Motherboard about his project and predicted it would be available within five years. But due to recent advancements in A.I., he expects it will only be a short time before people can have a conversation with a VR robot without realizing they are not a real person.

“The AI is progressing extremely fast. Honestly, it is progressing faster than even we anticipated,” Sychov said.

ChatGPT’s advanced algorithm would store people’s speech and mannerisms, and allow other users to interact with their virtual avatar.

Not creepy at all.
