Thanks to ‘Us,’ a Bible Verse Is One of the Top Google Searches of the Week

We’re going to be very careful here not to spoil anything about Us, Jordan Peele’s new horror movie that topped the box office this past weekend, but the film does reference a Bible verse: Jeremiah 11:11.

The movie mentions the verse in passing, and now, tons of people are hitting the internet to look it up.

Jeremiah 11:11 reads, “Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘I will bring on them a disaster they cannot escape. Although they cry out to me, I will not listen to them.’”

We won’t reveal how the verse relates to the themes of the movie, but it’s significant, and the rush to look it up is warranted. Jeremiah 11:11 hit the 12th spot on Google Trends on the movie’s opening night, with over 200,000 searches. No doubt, it saw even more traffic throughout the weekend. (h/t Christian Headlines)

Makes sense that such a spooky, foreboding verse would appear in a horror movie, but in Us…well, we don’t want to say too much. Check the movie for yourself. Maybe it will encourage you to dive back into Scripture.
