Aretha Franklin is as legendary as American music gets, and a biopic about her incredible life story has been in the works for a long time. Before Franklin herself passed away, she even handpicked Jennifer Hudson as the woman to play her. Liesl Tommy, who’s directed episodes of Insecure and Jessica Jones will be handling the biopic and now, we’ve got an electric trailer.
The movie will chart Franklin’s rise from singing in her father’s church choir to being heralded as one of her generation’s greatest stars. The movie will also star Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Skye Dakota Turner, Tate Donovan and Mary J. Blige. It’ll release this December.
