The company Kano makes kid-friendly products that help teach children how to code, but let’s be honest, every adult is going to want their latest piece of tech: a programmable Harry Potter wand that, once you build it, can cast “spells” and perform magic however you want.
For $99, you receive all the components to build and use the wand, including a computer board, an accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer. Once the wand is built and programmed (the kit tells you how to do this—after all, it’s a tool designed to help you learn how to code), you can use it with a tablet to cast spells within six different settings, including Hogwarts and the Forbidden Forest. The kit can be preordered now, and is available for purchase from retailers October 1. Maybe this is the first thing you can cross off your kids’ Christmas list, or your Christmas list. Hey, coding’s a valuable skill, right?
